Surface analysis is fundamental to guarantee the compliance of production to quality standards, both for floor and wall tiles.
Recently the success of larger formats, the development of new, sophisticated reflection effects in particular on wall tiles, have increased the request for automatic controls more effective and more reliable than those currently available.
To respond to these needs, EXAMINA has introduced innovative hardware and software methods to identify defects both on glossy and rough surface.
Glossy surface is still a challenge for an automatic sorter, because light reflection can be heavily modified by convexity/concavity of the tile with the result of either saturation or very low intensity perceived by the sensor.
Suppliers have tried to overcome this issue by using multiple cameras with different angle of incidence, mechanical support to change cameras or light position, giving the operator the choice between specific algorithms or parameter settings: these solutions however require the operator to take decisions, spending time and with high probability of errors.
EXAMINA has chosen a different approach that does not require the operators to change their usual way of working, the “training” approach, that requires only specific skills on the ceramic product.
This new technology is available as a standalone machine or integrated on EXAMINA Automatic Sorting System.
