Quality Control On Green Tiles
The goal of any manufacturing plant is to produce first quality tiles only, but the reality is often quite different.
At the final sorting, we have tiles that are downgraded or even discarded for the most various reasons.
The higher the number of downgraded tiles, the bigger the waste, in terms of profitability, energy, raw materials, store management costs ....
While the final sorting can only avoid shipment of bad tiles to Customers, the right way to increase quality and yield, is to identify and to remove any possible source of defects at the earlier stages of manufacturing.
TECNOEXAMINA, using the same well proven electronic and software technologies of its final sorting machine, has expanded the concept of automatic control to those intermediate stages of the production process that heavily affect quality, but are now only controlled by manual sampling.
By analyzing costs and value of the product along the production stages, the “decoration” area (either with traditional rollers and silkscreen or inkjet printers) has been identified as one of the most important point.
For this reason, TECNOEXAMINA has developed XGL, the automatic inspection system devoted to green tiles, that allows:
- to monitor each tile before firing
- to react quickly in order to solve surface and color defects
- to discard defective pieces to avoid further processing and firing
XGL, thanks to the fast installation and the ease of use, has been adopted by many primary Italian Manufactures that have obtained significant improvements.
Data collected on both wall and floor tiles, for defective green tiles removed before kiln and on the increased percentage of first choice at final sorting, show that the return on the investment is reduced in a few months term only.
